COURSE OBJECTIVES:

At the end of the workshop the participants will be able to:

  • Effectually managing the operations and functions of the warehouse;
  • Classify distinction between warehousing processes
  • Evaluating warehousing strategies from a qualitative and quantitative perspective;
  • Recognition that the safety of personnel and security of products are the basic building blocks for warehouse operations;
  • Optimizing warehouse operations and warehouse space availability as impacted by equipment and product flow;
  • Recognition of  better efficiency through warehouse performance measurements

 

 TARGET GROUP

Those involved in warehousing (store) activities, both at the operational and supervisory levels. The course is also appropriate for anyone interested to know more about the interaction between warehousing and other materials management functions (purchasing, inventory control, and distribution).


COURSE OUTLINE

Day One: The Principles of Warehouse Operation
Competency Description: Warehouses are complicated areas of any business and in order to manage effectively a supervisor requires to appreciate the complexities of the operation.

•    Understanding the principles of the warehouse
•    Appreciating warehouse management systems

•    Functions of a modern warehouse
•    Where warehouses fit in the supply chain
•    Streamlining the flow of material
•    Utilizing warehouse management systems
•    Measuring warehouse performance
•    Effective utilization of bar coding
•    Employing the latest technology

Day Two: Organizing the Warehouse for Flow
Competency Description: Understanding the flow and the equipment required is essential to have a smooth running warehouse.

•    Evaluating the various phases of a warehouse
•    Understanding the roles of the phases
•    Uses the correct equipment for the task
•    Able to schedule and calculate space allocation

•    Layout Options
o    Receiving options
o    Storage options
o    Picking/assembly options
o    Dispatching options
o    Using the floor and the height space
o    Organizing for flow

•    Methods and Equipment
o    Selecting fork lift trucks
o    Selecting racking
o    Warehouse structures

o    Implications for warehouse layouts
o    Operational timings and planning

Day Three: Managing the Spares and Inventory Control Function
Competency Description: Spares and Inventory Control are important functions in an organization which can be an expensive overhead if not correctly managed.

Key Objectives
•    Understanding the principles of inventory control
•    Be aware of the costs of inventory
•    Create methods to reduce costs in inventory
•    Be able to maintain high customer service

Topics to be covered
•    The function of stock and spares
•    Utilizing consignment inventory
•    Moving to supplier managed inventory
•    Lessons from the Japanese - just in time inventory
•    Reducing excess and obsolete inventory
•    Measuring inventory management performance

Day Four: Inventory, Analysis, and Product Classification.
Competency Description: It is essential to be able to understand how to manage inventory and ensure that the there is the correct stock of spares available with reduced costs.

•    Know how to implement inventory control strategies
•    Understanding of inventory classification

•    Effective strategies for inventory management
•    Inventory accuracy and control
•    Handling WIP (Work-In-Progress) inventory
•    Three-dimensional inventory classification and segmentation (ABC)
•    Using inventory classification to drive efficiency
•    Replenishment methods and strategies

Day Five: Out Flow and In Flow Logistics Management
Competency Description: Out Flow and In Flow Logistics can be an expensive function and the delivery of product has an essential role in the organization.

Key Objectives
•    Know how to use the correct mode of transport
•    Be aware of internal and external customer requirements
•    Giving powerful feedback to increase optimum performance

•    Managing the Out Flow and In Flow functions
•    Using tools for Outflow
•    Methods of transport

  2. Cancellation Fee - Cancelletion of any participant 5 working days before the start day of a course will incur a 20% cancellation fee.
