COURSE DESCRIPTION
This two-week course explores the intersection of environmental issues, justice, and equity. Environmental justice examines how environmental hazards disproportionately affect marginalized communities, particularly those based on race, class, and geography. The course will provide a comprehensive understanding of how these disparities emerge, the social, political, and economic factors that perpetuate them, and the pathways for achieving equitable solutions. Through case studies, readings, and discussions, students will explore global and local environmental justice issues, the role of policy in shaping environmental outcomes, and the ways in which individuals and organizations can advocate for environmental equity.
TARGET GROUP
This course is designed for a diverse group of individuals interested in environmental justice and equity. It is ideal for:
• Students in environmental science, policy, sociology, political science, and related fields.
