PREAMBLE
The Utility Network Data Modeling in GIS two-week course is designed to provide participants with the essential skills required to model, manage, and analyze utility networks within a Geographic Information System (GIS) environment. This course covers the fundamentals of utility network data modeling, with a focus on how to build and manage utility networks for water, electricity, gas, and telecommunications using ArcGIS and other GIS platforms. Participants will learn how to structure and organize utility network data, create network topology, perform network analysis, and visualize network performance. The course will also explore the integration of utility networks with real-time data and the best practices for maintaining network models.
TARGET GROUP
The training is designed for:
- GIS professionals and analysts who wish to expand their knowledge into utility network data modeling.
- Utility engineers and planners responsible for managing and optimizing utility networks.
- Asset management professionals working with utility infrastructure.
- Individuals interested in integrating GIS with utility network management and analysis.
- Utility service providers seeking to improve network design, maintenance, and performance through GIS.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Understand the basics of utility networks and their applications in GIS.
- Create and manage utility network data models using ArcGIS Utility Network Designer.
- Build and configure utility network topology for different utilities (water, gas, electricity).
- Perform network analysis to optimize operations, including connectivity, flow analysis, and asset management.
- Integrate utility network data with real-time monitoring systems for up-to-date information.
- Work with schema and data models for utilities in GIS and apply these models to real-world situations.
- Maintain and update utility network data for ongoing use and long-term accuracy.
- Use utility network data for decision-making in planning, operational, and maintenance activities.
- Visualize utility network data for analysis and reporting using mapping and GIS tools.
COURSE OUTLINE
The following units will be discussed
- Introduction to GIS for Utility Networks
- Setting Up Utility Network Data Models
- Building Utility Network Topology
